Abstract

There are elements of sexual discrimination in relationships of professionals in health care organizations. The purpose of this paper was to investigate whether there was a difference in the nurses' relationship with medical doctors based on sexes.
Eleven nurses were interviewed. The results of the study indicate that most interviewees often played the traditional female role that medical doctors wanted them to be without any resistance. They felt that male doctors expected them to be professional as well as to be traditional female, some interviewees experience that they were expected to play the role related to the women rather than professionals at the same time the nurses' attitude towards the female doctors was negative and they did not have intimacy based on the fact that they also were women.
To be more independent in the relationship between nurses and doctors and to eliminate the sexual discrimination, nurses need to raise the consciousness of the professionalism.
